What it costs

Style Per day 10 days, per person
Budget €78–140 ~€1,210
Mid-range €190–360 ~€2,970
Luxury €630–1,550 ~€11,500

A mid-range hotel is €90–150 on Naxos and €250–500 on Mykonos in August. Splitting
nights between one famous island and one quiet one is the biggest saving available.

Choosing islands

Cyclades for the classic white-village image — Santorini, Naxos, Paros, Milos.
Ionian for families and sailing — greener, calmer, sheltered.
Crete deserves two weeks on its own.

Two islands in ten days, three at most. Each ferry hop costs half a day.

The ferry problem

Ferries stop in high winds, most often in July and August, and there’s no appeal — you wait.
Never book a ferry arriving the same day as an international flight. Conventional
ferries keep running when high-speed catamarans are cancelled.

Detail in ferries vs flights.

What to skip

  • Combining Cyclades and Ionian. Opposite coasts, routed back through Athens.
  • Santorini and Mykonos together — the two priciest and busiest islands.
  • Four islands in ten days.
  • Meteora as a day trip from Athens — 4.5 hours each way.
